 July 17, 2018

The median weekly earnings of 115.8 million full-time U.S. wage and salary workers were $876 after completion of the second quarter of 2018. Of the total, women had median weekly earnings of $780, 81.3% of the men’s $959 weekly median.

Highlights from the second quarter data revealed the median weekly earnings were highest for men age 35 and older in the second quarter of 2018. Weekly earnings were based on age ranges from: 35 to 44, 45 to 54, 55 to 64, and 65 and older. Median weekly earnings were listed as follows: $1,085 (35-44), $1,108 (45-54), $1,127 (55-64), $1,074 (65 and older). You can visually see the increase in median weekly earnings as a full-time worker’s age increases, until retirement at 65, where it takes a fall.

Median weekly earnings were highest for women ages 35 and over. The earnings were listed as follows: $866 (35-44), $854 (45-54), $856 (55-64), and $925 (65 and older). Women’s weekly earnings fluctuated much more than men’s, but at the time of retirement, the median weekly earnings were at its highest.   Men and women between the ages of 16 and 24 had the overall lowest median weekly earnings of $528 (men) and $511 (women).

Workers employed in full-time management, professional, and occupations related, had the highest median weekly earnings ($1,463 for men and $1,080 for women). Any man or woman employed in the service industry made significantly lower median weekly earnings. Men made $615 and women made $512.

Full-time workers at the age of 25 and older without a high school diploma had low median weekly earnings of $554, compared to those with a high school diploma and no college experience, making $726. Those men and women holding a bachelor’s degree had median weekly earnings of $1,310. Any advanced degree male workers made $3,900 or more per week, and female workers made $2,625 or more.
