Production in Construction up By 0.2% in the Euro Area

According to Eurostat, seasonally adjusted production in the construction sector increased in the Euro Area by 0.2% and in EU28 by 0.6% as at June 2018 compared to May 2018. However, in May 2018, construction production reported growth of 0.3% in the Euro Area while EU28 grew by 1.2%. Production in construction however grew by 2.6% in the euro area in June 2018 relative to June 2017, and by 2.7% in the EU28.

Annual comparison by construction sector and by Member State

In June 2018, the 2.6% growth in the production of construction compared with June 2017, was due to a rise in civil engineering by 3.7% and building construction by 2.1%. Additionally,  in the EU28,  building construction rose by 1.8% and civil engineering by 6.2% resulting in the increase of 2.7%.

Countries with the highest increases in construction production included: Hungary (28.3%), Poland (24.2%) and the Czech Republic (8.9%). On the other hand, the only decrease was observed in Bulgaria (-2.9%).
