According to Eurostat, seasonally adjusted production in the construction sector increased in the Euro Area by 0.3% and in EU28 by 1.2% as at June 2018 compared to May 2018. However, in April 2018, construction production reported growth of 1.4% in the Euro Area while EU28 grew by 0.8%.
Annual comparison by construction sector and by Member State
In May 2018, 0.3% growth in the production of construction compared with April 2018, was due to a rise in civil engineering by 0.4% and building construction by 0.2%. Additionally, in the EU28, building construction rose by 1.2% and civil engineering by 1.1% resulting in the increase of 1.2%.
Countries with the highest increases in construction production included: Slovenia (+30.3%), Poland (+23.3%) and Hungary (+15.2%). On the other hand, decreases were observed in France (-4.1%) and Bulgaria (-0.4%).
