July’s Producer Price Index for final demand recorded a 0.2% increase, seasonally adjusted, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Final demand prices inched up 0.1% in June and May. On an unadjusted basis, the final demand index rose 1.7% for the 12 months ended in July.
This movement was mainly attributable to a 0.4% increase in the index for final demand goods. Prices for final demand construction increased 0.6%. However, the index for final demand services fell 0.1%.
The index for final demand less foods, energy, and trade services declined 0.1% in July. Prices for final demand less foods, energy, and trade services rose 1.7% for the 12 months ended in July.
Prices for final demand goods increased 0.4% in July attributable to a 2.3% increase in prices for final demand energy. Nonetheless, the index for final demand goods less foods and energy climbed 0.1%, while prices for final demand foods rose 0.2%.
The final demand services index decreased 0.1% in July attributable to a 0.3% decline in prices for final demand services less trade, transportation, and warehousing. Prices for final demand trade services and for final demand transportation and warehousing services both climbed 0.2%.
